Peñíscola is not only singular by its location on a rocky promontory surrounded by the sea and together with earth by "tómbolo" sandy, but by its exceptional monuments, the historical facts as which served as scene and the beauty of their beaches and enormous cliffs of the Serra d'Irta, natural place of great beauty. The majestic Castle of Peñíscola was constructed by the templars in century XIII. It is a unique work, of Aragonese style, austere and naked of all ornamentación. This singular work was continued later by the Order of Wild and Pope Benedicto XIII, more known like the Pope Luna where he retired after the Schism of the West. Peñíscola has played a very important role during years in the most outstanding events of the history of Spain. This population is, at the present time, the visited tourist city more of all the Valencian Community. |
